How Not To Sabotage Your Skincare Efforts During Summer

Year after year, you might being seeing the same problem.

All winter long you slather on that coconut oil and go to great lengths to keep skin soft and supple.

Then come September, all that sun and sand seems to have destroyed those efforts. It doesn’t have to be that way!

Summer skincare is a whole different ballgame and once you know what to do you can keep your skin in supermodel shape all year long. Here are some important skincare guidelines to follow this summer.

Let’s Pretend That Being Pale Is In Style

You may have seen a few sun worshippers that haven’t aged as gracefully as they would have liked. In fact, sun exposure is one of the main causes of skin damage and wrinkles.

We know it’s easy to just spray on some SPF and call it a day but that’s just not going to cut it.

Remember that SPF 30 means you’re protected for 30 minutes then you need to reapply. Don’t count on one application to keep skin safe all day.

You can also protect the delicate skin on your face and neck by wearing a big floppy hat or sitting under an umbrella. So next time you’re at the beach, kick back and relax in the shade with that rose.

Don’t Look Like An Oompa Loompa

So you know that tanning is bad but what’s a ghostly girl to do?

You’ve got a wedding coming up and you’re legs are basically glowing in the dark.

Enter self-tanner. There have been a lot of self-tanner disasters from splotchy to orange. But don’t be so quick to blame the product, blame your skin.

Prepping skin for self-tanner is essential for smooth application. This includes regular exfoliation and moisturizing.

If you don’t prep skin ahead of time the self-tanner will stick to the dead skin cells, not cute.

Take A Style Lesson From Jackie O.

Go ahead and grab the biggest pair of sunglasses you can find. This will give the skin around your eyes extra SPF protection without the need to reapply sunscreen over your makeup.

The skin around the eyes is especially prone to sun damage which can quickly cause wrinkles.

Don’t Let Your Skin Die Of Thirst

Hot summer days are hard on your skin so give it some regular TLC. Using a hydrating mist will keep your skin feeling refreshed.

Choose a mist that can also double as a setting spray to keep your makeup perfectly in place, even at the beach.

And don’t forget to drink some water between those margaritas!

Feed Your Skin

Many moisturizers will hydrate skin temporarily until most of it evaporates.

Choose moisturizers and serums that include nourishing plant-based ingredients. Ingredients like aloe and Vitamin C will help prevent redness that can be caused by sun, heat and sweat.

Don’t Skin This Important Step

Cleansing is more important than ever in hot weather. Sweating can cause clogged pores which leads to breakouts.

Stay on top of your cleansing game by washing morning and night with a cleanser that will get deep into pores.
